David’s natural ability in the sport has been very evident from early and he has enjoyed a measure of success at every level he competes in that keeps him motivated to advance to the next level. While in primary school he was a regular starter and led his primary school team to back to back national titles and was voted onto the All Star teams both times.
In secondary school his talent was again in the spotlight as he has led his school team, St Mary’s College, to national titles at both the infantile and U14 levels. It should be noted the infantile team lost only one game all season and that was the game that he did not play in due to a minor injury he picked up just before the season started. His coach has called him a difference maker and the kind of player that lifts everyone around him to a higher level. Needless to say his coach has called him his MVP at that age group.
He was a critical member of the Royhil Seals U14 team that lost in the finals of the South Florida International Water Polo Tournament in 2017. A heartbreaking lost that came after the euphoria of scoring the game winning goal from half pool with only 3 seconds left in the semi-finals.
That moment is just an example of the calm, confident, self motivated and driven athlete that he is developing to be.
The club takes the development of their young talent very seriously and as such, they take a team to participate in various tournaments. These tournaments give the players invaluable experience needed for their development in the sport, with exposure to competition against teams from USA, Canada, Europe and the Caribbean.
The team is looking to return to Florida in Feb of 2018 to seek to capture the title that eluded them in 2017. They have been training diligently towards the goal of recapture the U14 title and adding the U16 title to the trophy cabinet. The club had the joy of winning the U14 title in 2015 , and having come so close in 2017 the team is looking forward to bringing the title home again in 2018.
This time around, in keeping with the club’s commitment to raising the level of each and every player through higher level tournament participation, they will also be attending the 9th Annual KAP7 International Tournament in Irvine, CA. These two tournaments are seen as vital in the development of the athletes, especially the ones who have aspiration of making the national teams, like David, and representing Trinidad and Tobago, thusly boosting our competitiveness and performance both regionally and internationally.
The team is expected to fly out on the 9th Feb 2018 to CA, then leaving CA on the 13th Feb to head to Miami FL. Eventually leaving on the 19th Feb
Unfortunately, the club budget is not adequate enough to cover these opportunities and is therefore dependent on the individual families to raise the funds, both collectively and individually.
The cost of this USA tour is approximately $3000 USD per athlete. This will cover the cost of airfare, accommodations, food, transportation and player registration for both tournaments. This must be paid by December 29th 2017 in order to get the best pricing on airline tickets and accommodations.
This is an amazing opportunity for personal and athletic development for a young man that would be a shame to miss out on. He has been training harder and often joins in with the kids 16-19 year old in an effort to get even better. He loves the challenge.
We are asking for your assistance in getting David to these tournaments. He will be eternally grateful for any and all assistance towards him being granted this opportunity to grow and develop in the sport he loves and to gain the personal developmental experience that will only serve positively in his growth as a young man of this world.
