Sporting a Santa Claus hat and matching red stole, Holy Trinity Cathedral Interim Rector Fr Carl Williams yesterday reminded children of the importance of family and love at Christmas time and year-round and blessed their toys.

He delivered a brief exhortation at the Feast of the Holy Innocents service at the Holy Trinity Cathedral, Abercromby Street, Port of Spain.
Among those present were deacons David Pollard, Cheryl Mottley, Fr Michael Greenidge and Fr Fareed Munir. Cruise ship visitors from the vessel MSC Poesia and a group of religious studies students from Siena College, New York, USA, attended the children’s service.
The majority of visitors were from Brazil and Italy, and they busied themselves taking pictures of the creche, Christmas decorations, historic Cathedral and beautiful children.
Chavez Benjamin and Khai Alcantra played Christmas songs such as “Mary Did You Know” on the saxophone and pan.
During his meditation, Willi­ams quizzed the children about their knowledge of evil King Herod. He asked: “Do you all know who King Herod was? He was jealous of Jesus. He was an evil king like King Ahab. He killed his sons. He wanted to get rid of the Christ Child. The Holy Family escaped because of their obedience to God. They listened to the counsel from the Angel Gabriel.”
He added: “There are evil people. People who have no respect for God. They commit murders and robberies. No man, woman or child has the right to take the life of another person. There were some people who were walking to church. They were robbed. Isn’t that awful?” Women are being disrespected. They have no respect for God.”Develop respect for God,
