SYNOD CHARGE 2019 – 147TH SESSION OF SYNOD
Brothers and Sisters we have convened the 147th Session of Synod during the week of the Sixth Sunday after Pentecost, Proper 11. This week, Jesus exhorts us to ‘choose the better part’, to set our priorities carefully, in whatever situation we may be placed. It is the week when Jesus reminds us of the Scripture – ‘It is written, One does not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’ Here we are reminded of the priority of the Word for disciples, and the sacrificial demands of discipleship. Here we are called as disciples to allot time to read the scriptures, to pray, to focus, to let the Lord have his way in our lives. Most importantly, we are to be careful that we are not distracted by the busyness of life, to the detriment of our call and the neglect of the kingdom.
