The Lydians – Christmas in Chrome

The Lydians present Christmas in Chrome

The Lydians proudly supported by First Citizens will present Christmas in Chrome featuring the Lydian Steel on Saturday, December 12, 2020.
The virtual concert will be directed under the leadership of Carl-Anthony Hines, the new Musical Director of The Lydians.

Christmas in Chrome will put the spotlight on the talented musicians of the Lydian Steel as well as some of this country’s best voices.

The concert will feature new arrangements/collaborations with pianist, arranger, composer, producer and educator Adan Hagley; a new Kaiso/Soca Parang medley arranged by Lydian Steel and Desperadoes Bassist Kwesi Moore; as well as the premiere of a new Christmas Carol commissioned by the Lydians from young Trinbagonian composer Michael Hudlin, written for a distanced quartet of pans, piano and voice.

Also featured will be audience favourite, an original composition from Steel Captain Astra Noel, specially revamped for this year and a rhythmic instrumental arrangement from Hines for the Steel ensemble.
Hines was appointed Musical Director of The Lydians effective October 1, 2020, and the announcement was made at the organisation’s latest AGM.
An active member of The Lydians since 2014, Hines took charge of the choir in 2016 as Guest Conductor and Rehearsal Master on a full-time, volunteer basis.

He was then appointed as Assistant Musical Director from July 2017 to July 2019 and subsequently served as Interim Musical Lead. Since 2014 he has been a contributing writer for the programmes of the major works of the Lydians.

In 2019, Hines submitted an article precis of the musical history of the Lydians repertoire and how it was shaped by the tastes of the previous musical directors. For the First Citizens country-wide 25th Anniversary celebrations in 2018, he was on the production team of the Trinidad leg as the Musical Coordinator/Composer.

Christmas in Chrome will stream live via The Lydian’s YouTube channel on Saturday, December 12.
