Diocesan Secretary

The office of the Diocesan Secretary is the coordinating centre of the Diocese and is responsible for providing the resources to support the Vision and Mission of the Diocese.  It monitors, records and receives reports on the work of the Church on behalf of the Synod and Diocesan Council

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Serving as Secretary of the Synod and as Secretary to the Diocesan Council, which oversees the Administrative Committees, viz. the Board of Education, the Finance Board, the Lands and Building Committee, Diocesan Communications Committee and the Regulations Committee.
  • Ensuring smooth preparation of arrangements for the Diocesan Synod; coordinate the submission of Committee/Commission reports for Synod in accordance with Regulations; and finalize distribution of reports and other material as required before and on completion of the Synod
  • Distributing and keeping under review action plans and other decisions emanating from Diocesan Council meetings; 
  • Ensuring smooth communication flows and interaction between Diocesan Committees
  • Monitoring the implementation of financial decisions and accounting procedures of the Diocese on behalf of the Trustees.
  • Keeping custody of the Corporate Seal and the Seal Register.
  • Serving as an ex-officio member of all Diocesan Committees

Qualifications & Experience

A Business degree or equivalent professional qualification.   At least ten years’ experience at a senior level of management as an administrator. Sound experience in administration, human resource management and accounting principles and practices.

Required Competencies Include:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the principles and practices of management and their applicability to the management of a coordinating office.
  • Ability to manage a high volume of work and to monitor and coordinate the work of staff
  • Ability to express ideas clearly and convincingly orally and in writing;
  • Ability to maintain productive relationships with clients; to understand their needs and to remain responsive to their expectations.
